A few days back we shared some details on Google Pixel 4XL, including new information on Face Unlock and smooth display. The latter is the name of Google for the 90Hz speed to which the Pixel 4 XL screen will be updated. This will make the screen scroll very smooth while improving the experience of playing mobile video games on the phone. Nextrift, the same source of this information, today published additional information based on the Pixel 4 XL it could get. The device, although running pre-launch software, can provide additional details on the phone.
While we have heard a lot about the new features of Pixel 4 XL, such as Face Unlock and Motion Sense (radar-based technology that allows users to control aspects of the phone with hand gestures), we have not heard anything about the fact that the new model will retain Active Edge. This is the function that allows users to press the sides of the phone to activate the Google Assistant. And yes, it’s part of the Pixel 4 XL. But perhaps the most important novelty of Assistant is that it now works on the device. This makes it much faster. And with the conversation in progress, the Google Assistant will answer the follow-up questions and additional activities without having to say “Hey Google” between each.
Pixel 4 XL will be supplied with a new screen feature called Ambient EQ. Similar to Apple’s True Tone; Ambient EQ adjusts the white balance of the screen based on ambient lighting. Speaking of the screen, the Pixel 4 XL will carry a 6.23-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 3040 (QHD +). With a 19: 9 ratio, the screen will be slightly thinner and higher than the Pixel 3 XL screen, which had a ratio of 18.5: 9.
Pixel 4 XL will be available in Just Black, Clearly White and Oh so Orange
While Google is said to be using some kind of 3D mapping system for the Pixel 4 XL face unlock (and without a fingerprint scanner, it’s the only biometric security option on the phone), there’s a warning problematic warning that says: “Your phone can be unlocked by someone who looks a lot like you, say, an identical sibling”. This may not make Pixel users feel comfortable using Google Pay on the device. On the other hand, depending on who performed the test, Apple’s Face ID has sometimes blocked one twin’s access to the other twin’s iPhone.
Pixel 4 XL will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and will have 6 GB of memory along with 64 GB / 128 GB of storage space. On the back is a square module with a 12.2 MP main camera and a 16 MP telephoto lens. A third spectral sensor is said to be on board to capture certain rays that normally cannot be detected by the human eye, such as X-rays, infrared and ultraviolet light. There is a front camera for 8.1 MP selfies and a battery with a capacity of 3700 mAh keeps the lights on.
The Pixel 4 XL and the smaller Pixel 4 should be presented on October 15 during the next Made by Google event. The phones should be available in three colors: just black, clearly white and oh, then orange. While we may not know the official price of the phones until the event, if everything remains the same, we could see that Pixel 4 sold for $ 799 or more and Pixel 4 XL for $ 899 or more.
Both phones will be pre-installed with Android 10 and, as usual, will be updated to the latest Android version for three years. Security updates will be sent for 18 months after the Google Store has stopped selling the device. At the moment, they haven’t even started selling the phone.
