US Consumers Are Buying 5G Phones However They Do Not Have Coverage Yet

According to the counterpoint Research, with a limited number of US cities. Those who received 5G signals, 5G phone sales in May (the latest data available) were made in more than 10 markets. During that month, only Verizon sold a 5G compatible phone and offered service only in Chicago and Minneapolis. Counterpoint research director Tom Kang said that 5G phone sales were more widespread, challenging predictions of a concentrated market. He states that some cities not covered by Verizon’s 5G signals in May were among the top ten, while Minneapolis was not. The most important city, with a 5.3% share, was Chicago.

Counterpoint Research analyst Maurice Klaehne points out that many consumers buy 5G phones before coverage in their area. He points out that 85% of consumers know that 5G and Counterpoint estimate that over 5 million 5G phones will be sold in the US and this year with 22 million worldwide. Counterpoint also added that sales of 5G phones would be 60% higher in the US this year if Apple had offered an iPhone with support for the next generation of wireless connectivity. Apple will not launch such a device until next year.

It Is Expected That 5 Million 5G Phones Will Be Called In The States In 2019

Currently, 5G phones are available in the US to include the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and the LG V50. The Motorola Moto Z3 and the Verizon Moto Z4 can access the operator’s 5G network with the use of the attached Moto Mod 5G. The Moto Mod and both phones are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 modem chip, compatible only with 5Wave networks. Verizon expects to use only this high band spectrum, which has the disadvantage of traveling shorter distances than the low band spectrum; It also does not penetrate buildings, as well as airwaves in the lower frequency range.

Last week, Qualcomm and T-Mobile announced the first successful 5G call made through the operator’s 600MHz low-frequency spectrum. A Snapdragon X55 5G mobile chip was used for the test; unlike the X50, the new component is compatible with the mmWave and sub-6GHz spectrum.

T-Mobile believes that if it can complete the merger with Sprint, it will be able to implement the latter’s 2.5 GHz mid-band radio waves in combination with its 600 MHz spectrum and mmwave wavelengths. This, says T-Mobile, will allow you to build the first national 5G network in the US. As part of the agreement reached to obtain FCC approval of its proposed merger with Sprint, T-Mobile has promised that three years after the termination of the agreement it will cover 97% of the US (85% of rural areas) with low bandwidth coverage of 5G and average bandwidth coverage available in over 75% of the US population. It also promised to freeze the prices during the three years following the closing of the agreement.

Data download speeds of 5G will be ten times faster than those experienced with 4G LTE. This will allow users to download a long-lasting movie on their phone in seconds instead of minutes. Just as 4G LTE helped create the travel-sharing sector with $ 2 billion companies (Lyft and Uber), the 5G service, once at the national level, will lead to the creation of new businesses and services.
