The possibility that HomeKit is compatible with ring video doorbell is something that has been spreading for years and it seems that the wait can finally end. This is because Ring has now obtained HomeKit certification for both Video DoorBell Pro and Spotlight Cam.
Ring worked at least three years to achieve this, but in early 2018 when Amazon bought the company, some speculated that HomeKit would never be part of Ring’s products. However, Amazon has promised that HomeKit support will eventually be included and finally we could be closer to what is becoming reality.
Doorbell Pro And Spotlight Cam Video Ring
None of the products received an official announcement from Apple or Ring, but both were displayed on a list of products with an Apple MFi licensed on the Apple website. Unfortunately, this does not mean that we can expect HomeKit support right away, as software updates are needed for everything to work properly. When they come, nobody knows.
The addition of HomeKit support to Doorbell Pro and Spotlight Cam Video Ring will make them much more interesting for those who have built a smart home around the Apple ecosystem. The market for bells and cameras compatible with HomeKit is not huge at the moment and Ring’s entry will certainly improve things for those looking to secure their homes through HomeKit.
With the WWDC just around the corner, we could see some kind of announcement at that time, but first, we’ll be careful about the murmurs of Ring, Amazon or Apple.
