Apple Products May Get Pricier With New 15% US Tariff on Chinese Products

Some Apple items such as AirPods, Apple Watch, HomePod, and iMac computers were probably to get costlier as the new 15% US tariffs on Chinese items became effective from Sunday. Apple has its items assembled by Foxconn and different ODMs in China.


“For items secured by Annex A of the August 20, 2019 notice (84 FR 43304), the pace of extra obligation will be 15 percent on the current powerful date of September 1, 2019. For items secured by Annex C of the August 20 notice, the pace of extra obligation will be 15 percent on the current compelling date of December 15, 2019,” read the announcement from US Federal Register.

Apple iPhone models may likewise be around $100 more expensive in the US once the following set of 15 percent tariff comes into place from December 15.

Trump prior met Cook during a dinner, saying that Apple would be spending “immense sums of money in the US.”

“It’s extreme for Apple to pay taxes if they’re contending with a very good company that’s not. I said, How great a competitor?’ He said they are a generally excellent competitor. So Samsung is not paying taxes because they’re based in a different location,” said Trump.

Samsung has most of its assembling base in South Korea and Vietnam.
